Cowry

24x36. This painting belongs to a series of work created by Evans that was inspired by his travels in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Spending a month in the amazing terrain among its people, Evans returned with inspiration to create over 30 pieces. One of the most unique experiences the artist had while in Africa was going to the market place - the sights, the sounds and the relationships forged. This image represents the cowry shells that Evans saw in the market, in large bins containing thousands of these shells, often used for decoration.
